Table Notes 4 week ago

"Just off the lively stretch of Mong Kok’s Ladies Market, this place feels like a playful nod to the old style Hong Kong eateries many grew up with. The menu leans into nostalgic Cantonese comfort dishes, the kind that remind you of family dinners and neighbourhood cafés. Plates arrive hearty and familiar, full of bold flavours and that unmistakable wok fragrance that defines so much of Hong Kong cooking. Inside, the space carries a retro charm, with décor that celebrates the city’s past while the room buzzes with conversation and clinking chopsticks. It is the sort of place that does not try too hard to impress, yet somehow manages to feel full of character. A warm little tribute to the everyday flavours of Hong Kong."

"Delicious dishes and as authentic as it can get in Mong Kok. Very friendly waiter tipped us that it’s cheaper here bec it’s not on the groundfloor which means rent is cheaper. The decor is amazing with old style neon lights, signs, bric-a-brac & pictures & posters everywhere. Our party of 4 adults & 2 kids were very full and at a low price"

"We sampled a few traditional local hot dishes. The truffle shrimp toast was amazing and the honey-flavoured fried beef with potatoes was delicious. The stir-fried razor clam with black beans and peppers was tasty but a bit tough to chew. A few other dishes were also quite good. Overall, it’s highly recommended if you’re looking to try some authentic Hong Kong cuisine."

"The atmosphere here really takes you back to the 80s-90s Hong Kong cinema—it feels exactly like being in the movie 'A Moment of Romance'. The food is delicious, served quickly, and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for that nostalgic vibe!"

"A very popular place with the locals, so expect to wait in the reception area on the plastic seats before a table becomes available, but it’s worth it! There’s no English either on the menu or seemingly spoken by the staff - fortunately I was with a local who was able to pick a selection of the incredible dishes on offer. Portion sizes are huge and served really quickly. The pork and strawberry was a particular highlight and so tasty. The decor is a bit basic but totally authentic and that’s the real delight here. Saying that, the toilets are pretty disgusting! If you’re able to navigate the language then I’d highly recommend this place and would certainly return!"

"Came here for dinner and had to queue for quite a while, about half an hour. The restaurant’s setting feels like Hong Kong in 80s, which adds a nostalgic vibe. The food was seriously finger-licking good. We ordered grilled corns with spicy salt, truffle shrimp toast, and clay pot glass noodles with prawns. All of the paired perfectly with a Blue Girl Beer!"

"Slightly more expensive zhi char, effectively paying more for the air-conditioning and ambience. Decided on this restaurant as it is different from the usual 大排檔 which allows customers to smoke. Truffle prawn kinda of oily which puts us off. The rest of the dishes were good with wok hey. Must order 古老肉。"
